Last spring, My daughter Celeste(three at the time),fell off a slide on the playground and broke her arm. After driving her to the hospital and waiting in the ER for several hrs she was seen and had to go into surgery immediately. She could not move her fingers nor did she have feeling in her hand. The broken bone was pushing on the main nerve in her arm. She went into surgery and had 2 pins put into her arm and she had stay overnight because the Dr. was concerned about nerve damage. It was a scary time for my little angel and our family. After her surgery, I was waiting anxiously to see her and she came out with a smile on her face as she embraced a blanket given to her by one of the volunteers at the hospital. I recognized the blanket to be a “project Linus” blanket(since I have been involved with the project through St. Margaret’s Episcopal School) and was touched that a simple object created in love gave my daughter comfort during a scary time.
As our family made these blankets, I spoke to them about the various types of children that might receive these blankets and how much a simple act of kindness can impact others around us. My children had a sense of pride in being able to provide for others and I know that they will continue to do for others in various acts of kindness.
